Blitzkrieg - A Time of Changes Phase 1 is an awesome 2 disc collection of 32 tracks from this stunning powerhouse early 80s UK heavy metal (NWOBHM) band. You get their "A Time of Changes" album tracks from 1985, 3-song 1980 demo, both original single tracks ("Buried Alive" & "Blitzkrieg"), "Inferno" from the Lead Weight sampler, the 7 songs from the 1981 Blitzed Alive cassette and 9 unreleased tracks!!!
History
Blitzkrieg was formed in Leicester in October 1980. Their first demo, made in November that year, secured them their first recording deal with Neat Records resulting in the famous Blitzkrieg/Buried Alive single & a track on the Lead Weight compilation album.
The band gigged extensively in England but split in 1981. The members went their own separate ways but Brian Ross & Mick Moore stayed together to form the heart of Avenger. The band released 2 singles on Neat: Ross then left to join Satan with whom he recorded the classic Caught In The Act album which was released by Roadrunner & licensed to Neat for the UK. After the success of the Satan album & European tours, the band’s direction became unclear & Ross decided to leave & concentrate on managing the North East band Lone Wolf (Brian performed vocals on the single Your Move). Now Ross decided that it was time to record the Blitzkrieg LP that had been planned way back in 1981, entitled A Time Of Changes: it was released in 1985 on Neat/Roadrunner with recruits from the previous bands brought in to record the album. Meanwhile, Metallica covered the song Blitzkrieg on their Creeping Death EP.

In 1991 the band made a mini album called Ten Years Of Blitzkrieg for Roadrunner to celebrate their tenth anniversary, re-recording the Blitzkrieg /Buried Alive tracks together with 3 new numbers. In 1995 Neat Records re-emerged with a vengeance & immediately signed Blitzkrieg to a new 3 album deal: Unholy Trinity, Ten & The Mists Of Avalon were the result (also released in Japan on Pony Canyon Records). Another boost from Metallica came when the USA rockers again covered the Blitzkrieg track on their Live Shit box set & their 1998 album Garage Inc. 2002 saw the release of their new album Absolute Power on Edgy Records to rave reviews worldwide. A spate of interviews in Europe, the UK & the USA followed with a string of festival dates in Europe (& the US) which helped push the band back into the spotlight once more. Absolute Power was released in Brazil on Hellion Records & as an LP in Sweden by TPL Records. Following the release of their double Anthology CD on Sanctuary Records the band released their first live album on Metal Nation Records (again owned by Jess Cox). Following the release of Absolutely live, the band went on to record the critically acclaimed “Sins and Greed” which was released in mid 2005. This was also the subject of a Limited edition double gatefold release by TPL records in Sweden and in Brazil. The band has been gigging extensively throughout 2005 and 2006 touring with both Saxon and Doro in the UK as well as several European festivals. Live dates are being scheduled in Europe.

BLITZKRIEG - Blitzed Alive! (1981) UK
SELF RELEASED CASSETTE
This Demo cassette was recorded in studio,in November 28th, 1981, with crowd noise later added - it is next to impossible to find, especially with good sound quality.
Crowd noise was added to make it sound like more people were at the shows. This
lead to (false) rumors that the tape is not live. On A Time of Changes, crowd
noise from a Queen show was added to "Hell to Pay" as a joke on these rumors.

1. Ragnarok/Inferno 05:45
2. Take a Look Around 04:25
3. Armageddon 06:28
4. Blitzkrieg 03:44

BLITZKRIEG - A Time of Changes (1985) UK
NEAT RECORDS
This was Blitzkrieg's First full-length studio album, one of my favourite not only NWOBHM album, but one of the best album of the METAL!
This album came out when Brian Ross decided to reform BLITZKRIEG and record the
album they wanted to record before they split up in 1981. After the original
split of BLITZKRIEG Brian sang with AVENGER, SATAN and LONEWOLF.
The intro (“Ragnarok”) is quite mystical yet I find myself skipping it every time, the second track “Inferno” is a brilliant introduction of Brian Ross' memorable vocals. Once you hear his opening scream, you can pretty much predict the album is going to be a scorcher.
“Blitzkrieg” is the track I’m sure everyone is familiar with, as much as I’m fond of Metallica’s cover version I truly cherish the original. Brian’s vocals clearly dominate the track and make you appreciate the song on another level.
“Pull the trigger” has a bluesy riff and is another favourite of mine, Pull the Trigger is a Satan song that wasn't featured on the album
Brian did with Satan, though it did appear on an earlier demo "Into The Fire".
Satan guitarist Russ Tippins makes a guest appearing on the song.
“Armageddon” with out a doubt is a great track. Although the song doesn’t start with a flashy riff or anything spectacular, I can still appreciate the repetitive 58-second build up to a well-written verse. This is such a melodic masterpiece that takes you away, I found myself listening to it whilst staring up at my ceiling. It just mystifies you and takes you away in a trance. I guarantee you will agree when you get to the “frighten children are praying” part.
“Hell to pay” is a live track that has an adrenalin pumping vibe that makes you wish you were at the show. Brian’s vocals live are just as powerful if not more when recorded in front of live audience.
“Vikings” is a ballad that sends shivers down the back of my neck every time I listen to it. Although not as strong as “Armageddon” it still possesses the ability to mystify.
“A time of changes” is the cover title of the album and is my second favourite track.
The track is not only well written lyrically, the riffs can only be described as unique and unheard of. It certainly has taken my tastes into another level.
Finally “Saviour” is probably a let down considering the albums highlights and strengths, don’t get me wrong its still an excellent track but I doubt the song had much hope without Brian’s vocals. Lets face it Brian Ross’ vocals are what make up Blitzkrieg. !!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

BLITZKRIEG - The Mists of Avalon (1998) UK
NEAT METAL RECORDS
The first track is called “The legend” and it has 4 subtitle tracks.
Nevertheless the opening instrumental “Crimson Dawn” has an Irish feel to it and is solid until it gets quite repetitive. “Nations divided” has a soothing riff that can be described as epic, lyrically it’s a well written song about Camelot and King Arthur that works well and never really comes across as cheesy or vague.
“Tranquil state” is really the 6th track but due to the awkward format becomes song number 2, Mr. Ross’ vocals here are yet again spot on and underrated.
“I am the doctor (who are you)” I’m guessing was meant to be a joke…but you can never tell as the lyrics are not specifically suited with the title.
“Deceiver” is the next track and is by far my favourite, with a killer verse that’s well written and very melodic. This is why I love Blitzkrieg, their trademark is a sound like no other and simply unique.
“Princess for the world” is by far their worst track and is simply not Blitzkrieg at all. I understand that the band is British and are paying respects to princess Diana but its something I believe did not have to be written, especially from a NWOBHM legendary group. It has an interesting solo but is still a relatively boring song that made me lose interest.
“Smell of roses” is a relief and a breath of fresh air from the previous track, although it coincidently reminds me of Deceiver for some unknown reason. This is my second favourite as it blends their sound with their trademark melodic feel.
“Loves too late” is another classic nothing short of brilliant as is “Yesterdays” a ballad which kind of sounds like Maiden. I actually forgot I was listening to Blitzkrieg when I heard the riff on this track, but I guess that’s still a good thing right?
“Another interview” is a fast paced and quite funny if you listen to the lyrics, and finally “Vicious rumours” is the last track.
If your looking for value and another Blitzkrieg classic album look no further, this is definitely a must for all fans. I think that this album deserves a little more gratitude than it has received over the years. EPIC ALBUM!
