In case you didn't know, this 7" is not one of the most coveted Swedish Metal items merely because the band released a bunch average, fairly successful LPs in the 80's. Nope, this jewel stand on its own merits as one of the heaviest and most powerful Swedish Metal releases ever. The galloping, early version of "Prisoner Of War" thrashes any HEAVY LOAD song both before and after, but the real treat here is the devastatingly heavy epic "Sauron", exclusive for this release to this day. We're talking total early MANOWAR/MANILLA ROAD Might here. Not in a million years would you take this for the same band who later produced schmallad filth like "Lorraine".

Formed after the demise of Death Angel.
A number of well-known musicians have played live with Swarm, including Kirk Hammett of Metallica, Les Claypool of Blind Illusion and Primus, Lemmy of Motörhead, and Jerry Cantrell.
All the songs are from the 'Devour' EP (2002) and the self-titled EP (1999) and I guess the remaining two songs are from an early demo or something.

BRAIN SURGEONS are a New York heavy metal band featuring Albert Bouchard formerly of BLUE ÖYSTER CULT, rock critic and former FLAMING YOUTH drummer Deborah Frost, guitarist ROSS THE BOSS formerly of THE DICTATORS, SHAKIN' STREET and MANOWAR, and bassist David Hirschberg. Originally titled IMAGINARY PLAYMATES, they formed in 1994 and initially centered around the nucleus of Bouchard and Frost; at one point, Billy Hilfiger (ex-KING FLUX, HELEN WHEELS BAND and brother of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger), was their guitarist. They have undergone several lineup changes over the course of the band's lifetime, with ROSS THE BOSS solidifying the line up by joining in 2003. The band tours regularly and have released nine studio albums to date, the most recent being, "Denial Of Death", which was released in 2006. Check out the awesomely MANILLA ROAD sounding "Constantine's Sword", it's an absolute corker.

Prepare to be metalized! It's amazing what a band can do to you. What is it that makes you rock your brains out and gives you the maximum amount of relaxation. Yes indeed Dark Avenger did that all to me. Those Brasilian guys got their latest effort ready to release.
Thirty minutes of Heavy/Power metal alternated with a lot of classical movements. They managed to create an epic-album which is full of contrasts like heavy versus classical and up-paced versus mid/slow-paced. It?s not only that which is making "X Dark Years" a tremendous piece of art. When you?re talking about powermetal vocalists a lot of us are thinking about castrated men, I know it?s true but Mario, their vocalist does a lot more than iiiiaaaaaaachs? His power lays in his mid-tone voice and off course his high pitch voice. It's all done with great enthusiasm and professionalism.
X Dark Years contains five songs, these songs are different from each other in style and sphere, it's like reading a book. The first song "Dark Avenger" starts with an eerie classical movement which explodes after almost two minutes into a pumpin' staccato rhythm. Some of you know this song already from the album "The Dark Avenger" but this is a completely rearranged one. This is really a song which causes you chicken skin. Sensitive and explosive in once. The next song ?Caladvwch? is a semi classical ballad which is completely guided with classical instruments like a violin and classical guitars. It's a very melodic ballad but the duration is a bit to long and somewhere at the end of the ballad you suddenly got the urge to push the forward button. It's a little minus. "Utther Evil pt 1" and "Utther evil pt 2" are song three respectively song four of this MCD. Utther Evil pt 1 starts with a bombastic piece of piano which is showing the high-standard capabilities of Thomas Galuf. This is even better then the Manowar piano movements. After this classical - see it as an intro - piece of work part two starts it's diesel engines. It reminds me to Zed Yago due to the guitars and the sometimes rasped intonations of Mario. They made a point with that. The final song, ?Unleash Hell? is as predictable their most aggressive kind of song. Pounding drums and galloping riffs are raging through the song, fortunately it's not all up-paced cause the mid-part is reserved for a solo. Unleash Hell can be described as a sort of Mike Murphy meets Timo Kotipelto song.
